Frequently Asked Questions
General
Our business branding is Performer Power. Performer Power’s free open mics are run under the One Mic Stand-up name & in summer we run our One Mic Stand-up gigs in parks which we call One Mic Stand-up’s Park Comedy.
This website is to promote all comedy gigs we run in West Auckland. Park gigs are also listed on the Park Comedy website. Other gigs would also be listed under the appropriate website.
Currently we are only running in Parks
According to Wikipedia, “West Auckland is not a strictly defined area. It includes the former Waitakere City, which existed between 1989 and 2010 between the Whau River and Hobsonville, an area which includes major suburbs such as Henderson, Te AtatÅ«, Glen Eden, Titirangi and New Lynn. West Auckland typically also includes Avondale, and Blockhouse Bay.” Our first three regular gigs are in New Lynn, Henderson & the Green Bay end of Blockhouse Bay so we are meeting this.
Performer Power, our more general branding, has a much wider geographic range.
Tessa & Julia Clement who produce comedy shows in Auckland (although we have toured in the past) run the shows and this web site.
Parks
We have a mix of objective and subjective criteria.
Objective:
- The park must be in West Auckland.
- The park must be on (or very close) to a bus route.
Some comedians don’t drive & buses are an economical alternative. - There must be nearby parking.
This is so we can load / unload our sound and light gear. - The performing area (including audience area) must be visible from the road.
This is a safety issue. - There must be a well lit path to the road.
Again, for safety. - There must be a suitable area for the audience to sit and watch the performers.
- The park must have public toilets close to the performing area that close no earlier than 8:30 PM. If there isn’t a sign, the closing time can often be found on Google Maps. Some parks have toilets which close at 7 PM, we disregard those parks.
Subjective:
- We like to walk the ground and consider how we feel about it as a performing site.
- Where will the stage go, how does that relate to where the audience is likely to be?
- Is the park well maintained? One park we really wanted to use was effectively a building site.

Comedy seems to mostly happen in bars or dedicated comedy clubs which are also licensed premises. We wanted something different. We think it works, hopefully you will too.
